RN licensing costs, state by state.

Initial license, renewal, endorsement fees, and Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) status. Sourced directly from each state Board of Nursing fee schedule and the NCSBN compact roster.

Fees change. Always confirm with the state Board of Nursing before you pay. This tool is updated annually but state BoNs occasionally raise fees mid-year. Direct links to each board's fee schedule are below each card.

About single vs compact fees: In most eNLC states, your initial fee IS the multistate (compact) license fee — one fee, one license, covers practice in every compact state. A few states charge an additional "compact upgrade" fee on top of the single-state initial fee — those are flagged below. Non-compact states issue a single-state license only.

Last data review: 2026. Fees in USD. "Compact" means the state has implemented the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) — a single multistate license lets you work in any other compact state without separate endorsement.
